English Teacher, Grade 11 - Leave Replacement
Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory, boarding and day school with enrollment of 770 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California. The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach. The Lower/Middle Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stevenson School seeks an English Teacher to cover a planned faculty leave for the Fall 2025 semester.
The leave replacement teacher will provide instruction for two sections of 11th Grade English 3, American Literature. The ideal candidate will have previous experience teaching English at the secondary level and the ability to quickly establish connections with students and colleagues.
Responsibilities Include:
- Designing and delivering lessons focused on American literature content and skills
- Utilizing an existing syllabus to guide instruction and pacing
- Facilitating classroom discussion and promoting close reading and textual analysis
- Teaching the craft of analytical writing and providing thoughtful feedback on essays
- Holding students accountable for daily reading and annotation habits
- Communication with division leadership and divisional and/or departmental colleagues
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or related subject
- Prior experience teaching high school English, with a focus on American literature, or relevant expertise that ensures readiness for a short-term teaching assignment.
- A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
