Stevenson School is a PK-12 co-educational, college-preparatory, boarding and day school with enrollment of 750 students on two campuses in beautiful Central Coast California. The Upper Division campus (Grades 9-12) is located in Pebble Beach. The Lower/Middle Campus (Grades PK-8) is in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea. Stevenson School is seeking a Part-time Campus Security Officer - Overnight. Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, the Campus Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position assists with enforcing policies and procedures for the campus and provides escort services and other basic public assistance services as needed. The CSO also provides routine security and public safety patrol duties, remains alert to emergency situations, and provides first-line response, emergency management, and/or referral if necessary.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Regularly scheduled hours will be Friday and Saturday, 11:30 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts as needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Patrol and monitor all campus areas on foot or in specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
  • Remain alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security risks; approach suspicious persons and/or notify police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive
  • Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contact emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required
  • Examine doors and windows to ensure security; use school keys to open and close buildings; monitor closed buildings for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities
  • Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary; provide other public assistance, such as lockout services and routine information
  • Perform periodic checks of facility mechanical systems, alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and campus lighting to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required
  • Inform and warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles
  • Perform traffic control duties 
  • Develop knowledge of Stevenson School, policies, and regulations
  • Prepare routine, standardized reports
  • Other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of prior related experience
  • Ability to successfully conduct patrols without direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures, and follow and enforce safety codes, regulations, and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Skill in performing building security and lock procedures
  • Ability to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel
  • Skill in providing protection services to individuals on campus
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and the integrity of all aspects of information disseminated within or external to the school community
  • Commitment to being part of a diverse, equitable and inclusive school community

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency in an additional language is a plus

The pay range for this position is $20/hour - $23/hour, commensurate with experience. Meals are provided throughout the day when school is in session.
